It Ends with Us: Book Summary
Lily Bloom moves to Boston with hopes of opening her own floral shop. She reads through her old childhood diaries and remembers her first love, Atlas Corrigan, who left her but promised to return. In the meantime, Lily meets neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, and both of them are mutually attracted to one another. While reading this amazing novel, we get to know different characters and see them develop in the ways that we as humans get to know each other, but then Colleen suddenly shocks us with one revelation after another.
The author actually did a commendable job of helping others understand the mindset of some victims of domestic violence. Some parts of this novel were just completely unbelievable. For instance, Lily tells Ryle’s sister that she is pregnant and that Ryle has been physically assaulting her. Ryle’s sister says, Oh no, and within seconds, she pulls Lily into her bedroom to give her maternity clothes and plan a baby shower minutes after this awful news. In one part of the story, Lily says that if she knew that Atlas still loved her, she would never have been with Ryle. That’s not what Lily said earlier in the book.
Lily is definitely the most amazing female character that Colleen has ever created because she did what many of us would’ve struggled to do in the end: walk away. Lily was such a strong female character, and I admire her so much for having the strength to stand up for herself. She was in a tough position, but she put her foot down and demanded better for herself. In the end, no matter what, we are glad that Lily was able to find peace for her and Emmy. Colleen just made you fall so deeply in love with a character that even you couldn’t bring yourself to hate him, even if you wanted to.
READ THIS NOW! Do you know why? Because this book carries with it a very strong message, one that shows strength and courage that many people might not have had at the time but, after reading, will understand. You obviously don’t realize it when you start reading the novel, but it’s there when you look back after finishing. Ultimately, though, Colleen Hoover wrote a book that everyone can take something away from.
In the epilogue, Lily finds Atlas and tells him that she is ready to start her relationship with him again.
